(DC) Taking the Measure of Charter School Students

February 7, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am EST

In the past year, political opposition to charter schools reached new heights. But, with a new administration poised to make an unprecedented push for school choice, the debate over charter schools is likely to escalate further in 2017.

A key point of disagreement is over what charter schools do and what students they serve. Supporters often portray charters as serving disadvantaged students who traditional public schools have failed, while opponents cast charters as seeking out more advantaged students.

Join AEI for a discussion on how the student compositions of charter and traditional public schools differ. Nat Malkus will present his research, including a new paper on how student composition differs across charters with different academic models. An expert panel will then discuss the implications of this research and the future of charter schooling more broadly.

Join the conversation on social media with #MeasuringCharters.

If you are unable to attend, we welcome you to watch the event live on this page. Full video will be posted within 24 hours.
