(CA) EdSource Symposium 2017
October 5 @ 8:00 am - 4:00 pm PDT
“Education For All: Serving California’s Vulnerable Children” is the theme of this year’s EdSource symposium which has been offered every year since EdSource’s founding in 1977.
We will look at what schools and communities can do to ensure that all students succeed, especially in the wake of California’s landmark reforms and how current federal policies may undercut them.
In this timely response to widespread fear and anxieties, we will focus on what schools can do to best serve our most vulnerable students, including children from immigrant families facing the threat of deportation. But we will also look at other vulnerable populations, including special education students, LGBTQ students, and those at risk of dropping out —and how California can play a leadership role in ensuring that all students graduate from high school prepared to succeed in college and the workplace. A major goal of the symposium will be to look at successful strategies to break down silos in how schools serve these populations, and to create schools as “safe havens,” not just for students from immigrant backgrounds, but for all students.
Come meet leaders in the field, and bring your own experiences to the table at this challenging time for education and the nation!
