Friedrichs v. The California Teachers Association News Round-Up

On Monday, January 11, 2016, the United States Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association case. The plaintiffs in this case, led by California 4th grade teacher Rebecca Friedrichs, believe that no teacher should be forced to send payments to a labor union, whether traditional dues payments or so-called “agency fees.”  They believe it’s a violation of their First Amendment rights to be forced to subsidize union messages and activities with which they disagree. As expected, significant media coverage resulted after the oral arguments on Monday.
