Rocketship Education was founded in 2006 with aspirations to become a national network to eliminate the achievement gap in low-income neighborhoods. Its first school opened in San Jose, California, and it now operates seven schools in the Golden State.

In February 2012, Rocketship announced Milwaukee, WI, as its first expansion region outside of California; the first Wisconsin school is scheduled to open in the fall of 2013.  The company says it's developing the next set of expansion cities and aspires to ultimately open regional clusters in 50 cities, effectively changing the lives of  over 1 million students.

This interview was conducted at the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools conference, June, 2012.

AWESOME! Where does a teacher like me who grew up teaching and using an Apple ll in her 1st grade classroom in 1984 get hired to lead a school like Rocket ship? I have a good story to tell about discovering the joys of blended education when no such buzz word even existed. I need no training, I'm a rare bird still trying to find the place for me to grow and lead in K-12 education. Your operation and the cultural that exist can be duplicated soon on the east coast if I can get involved and reach the 'right' people. Living in Richmond, VA, the District of Columbia Public Schools would be an ideal place to start. I read today in the Washington Post that the Chancellor, Kaya Henderson is definitely interested sooner than later.
